Study Says Mothers Age 11 Years Faster

We all dread the idea of aging, and when aging symptoms start to manifest, we go for anti-aging products like newulife or other techniques. At one point, we get to grow old, maybe gracefully or not. Consequently, there’s a recent study that says moms tend to age 11 years faster. How true is this? Let’s find out below.

The Study

Anna Pollack’s study examined a total of 2,000 American women aged between 20 to 44 years old. Deriving the sample from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, the research shows that compared to childless women, mothers had telomeres that are 4.2% shorter, translating to 11 years of accelerated cellular aging.

Heart of the Matter

According to the study, every moment human cells replicate and divide, like in case of having a child, telomeres shortens. Telomeres are the caps at the end of a chromosome responsible for keeping your DNA from weakening.

Study Limitation

Despite the findings, Pollack and her team note that the study does not necessarily mean that all mothers will age 11 years faster. Since the study was cross-sectional, the sample size lacked temporality. Despite the limitation, Pollack notes that the magnitude of accelerated cellular aging in mothers surpasses the one associated with obesity and smoking impacts. With such an observation, Pollack suggests that further study is needed to ascertain the independence of child birth’s influence on cellular aging.

In the spirit of disputing Pollack’s finding, a 2017 study conducted in Mayan women shows contrary results. The geographical disparity seems to point out how different cultural setups affect mothers. For instance, American culture assign mothers to a more tasking life, having to juggle between working and being a mother with lesser help. Mayan mothers, on the other hand, enjoy an extended helping hand from the family and society.

Being a mother is tasking enough, meaning that mixing it with other activities that are challenging may lead to exhaustion and stress. The accumulated mental stress and physical fatigue will eventually lead to emotional stress and even depression if it is not dealt with promptly. Depression is a scientifically proven factor that leads to accelerated aging. As a mother, you can use anti-aging tips to decelerate the process of aging.
